Kathleen Blackman Obituary

Kathleen O'Brien Blackman, 90 from Binghamton, NY – Kathleen, went to be with the Lord on August 10, 2023. She was a vivacious and loving woman and the widow of William E. Blackman. She was also predeceased by her parents John T. and Mary O'Brien; siblings Helen Lasky, Ann Bulger, Patricia Lasky, Neil O'Brien and infant brother Daniel; nephew David Bulger, nieces Mary Bulger, Lesley Phillips, and Joan Kinate. She is survived by her children Terry (Rosie), Debra, William J., and Patrick Blackman; 11 Grandchildren Erin, Brianne, Ryan, Marci, Collyn, Gavin, Kyle, Sarah, Abigale, Madelyn, and Jack, many great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; siblings John (DonnaMae) O'Brien, Marylou (Joseph) Bokol, and Dennis O'Brien; sister-in-laws Ann Fields, Linda O'Brien; and many nieces and nephews. Kathleen was also survived by very close friends Joan Murray, David Quinlivan, and Kathy Blackman. A special thank you to Erica and Prudi, her aides, who made it possible for her to remain in her home for several years. We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to the staff and friends at Fairview Good Shepard Nursing Home who became part of her family, as they provided loving and devoted care during Kathleen's time there.

She graduated from Binghamton North High School in 1952 and studied at SUNY Broome. Kathleen was a day care mother, foster mother, nursery school teacher and a medical secretary. She was a member of AOH, St. Paul's Church, and her Lady Friend's Birthday Club. She was an avid reader and loved TV, movies, bingo, and the Yankees. Kathleen was a good person who loved people and they loved her back. She sure could talk! She would say that her tongue was at least an inch too long. She was a published author of a children's book "Meanwhile, Let Me Tell You a Story" – a legacy she left for her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and future generations. Kathleen would like you to grieve for her for only one day if you must, and the next day to smile, laugh, and remember all the good times that you and she had together.

A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Paul's Church, Chenango Street, Binghamton, Tuesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Monday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy in Kathleen's memory may be made to the Cerebral Palsy Foundation, 3 Columbus Circle, 15th Floor, New York, New York, 10019 (212) 520-1686
