Obituary of Eleanor K. Smith

Eleanor (Ellie) K. Smith, beloved wife and mother passed away on August 7, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. She was a loving wife of 63 years, mother to four sons, grandmother of five, and great-grandmother of two (with three more on the way). Growing up in New York City, Ellie attended the School of the Blessed Sacrament and completed her undergraduate education at the College Mount Saint Vincent in NYC. She later earned her master's degree at Hunter College in NYC. She was a respected teacher in business subjects for over 25 years, teaching at Woods Secretarial School in NYC, Binghamton Central and North High Schools in Binghamton, NY, and Susquehanna Valley High School in Conklin, NY. She was fortunate enough to have enjoyed family travel throughout the US, as well as Europe (Germany, Belgium, France, England, and Ireland). Ellie was also a long-time member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and the Hibernian Parade Committee. Ellie is survived by her husband E. Patrick Smith; sister Anne Quinn, brother Edward Keeshan, sister-in-law Betsy Isroelit, daughter-in-law Sue Smith, sons Edward (Cheryl), Patrick (Debbie), and Matthew, grandchildren Brendan (Janai), Meghan (David), Emma, Bec, and Gwendolyn, greatgrandchildren Sofia and Ellorie, and many close friends and relatives. She is predeceased by her son Michael, parents Edward and Ann Keeshan, parents-in-law Eugene and Elizabeth Smith, brothers-in-law Joseph Quinn and Ron Isroelit, sister-in-law Patricia Keeshan, and infant nephew Eddie Keeshan. The family wishes to thank Dr. Mullen and Dr. Rasheed, and all the physicians, nurses, and support staff at Wilson and General Hospitals for their kindness and gentle care during Ellie's recent stays. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Avenue, Binghamton, Friday August 18, 2023 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Michael J.
