Sorry to learn of the passing of my fellow teaching partner and friend Conrad Ross. We taught together at West Jr (later West Middle) until his retirement. He had the upmost respect from his students. I directed the stage band, 6 grade band and small ensembles. He was an excellent teacher as well as an outstanding musician (trumpet). After he retired, I continued with his teaching duties until my retirement.

Mr Ross was my band instructor at Thomas Jefferson and West Jr. He taught me to play the flute and gave me the gift of making music and an appreciation for music. That was a gift that has brought me so much enjoyment throughout my life. He was a wonderful teacher. My sympathies to you all.

Conrad was a very respected educator and musician. I started teaching at West Middle School and knew he lived close by, and we were good acquaintances through various music groups we both played in. I asked him if he could come and speak with my trumpet students about his career and life, and offer them some playing tips. He never said no, and was always happy to meet the new young musicians. He made quite an impression on several. He will be missed greatly. The music world, especially in our area, is forever in his debt.

I am so very sorry to hear about Connie. Connie and Marilyn were wonderful next door neighbors to my parents for many, many years. Connie was kind enough to keep an eye on my Mom after my Father passed. There were many times he’s check on Mom when she forgot to put in her hearing aids and didn’t answer my calls. I’d call Connie and he’d head right over to make sure she was ok! Fortunately, she always was! Connie was a kind, caring man and will be missed.

So sorry to hear his passing. I started taking private trumpet lessons from him while I attended West Junior in 1964 and continued all through high school. And to this day I still play the trumpet weekly in our church worship band. I always wished I could play like him. His articulation was so good. I'm so glad I had the opportunity to know him.

I am so saddened to hear of Mr. Ross's death. He was my band director at Alexander Hamilton and West Junior High School from 1967 to 1972 and was, without question, one of my favorite and most influential teachers. It was in large part because of the foundation, support, and encouragement that Mr. Ross provided that my participation in music continued throughout my childhood and adulthood and has been so rewarding and important. He impacted the lives of so many children - what a gift it was to have been the recipients of his talents and accomplishments. All my thanks to Mr. Ross and warmest thoughts and sympathy to his beautiful family.
Fondly, Janis Goodman

I was so sorry to learn that Mr. Ross has died. He was the band director when I was a student at Alexander Hamilton Elementary School and West Junior High School in Binghamton. In fifth grade, I wanted to play saxophone but ended up playing French Horn instead at Mr. Ross's suggestion. I loved Mr. Ross. He was always kind and patient with all of the kids in the band. Truly a wonderful man.
