Kathleen Marie Silvestri passed away on May 31, 2023 after a short illness. She was born on June 1, 1952 to Molly and Bart Garito at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, N.Y. Kathy loved growing up in Norwich and enjoyed being part of a big extended Italian family. She cherished traditions and was a great cook and enjoyed making the family recipes. She graduated from Norwich High School in 1970 and then attended beauty school and became a beautician. She owned and operated Cut Above in Norwich,NY for many years and had many happy customers. Kathy had a big heart and was kind, positive and thoughtful to everyone she met. If she could do something for someone to help them out she would. She had great insight as to what people needed and always put others first. During the Northern Ireland conflict she would have children that lived in Ireland come to her house and stay for the summer. She did that for many years and last year one of her Irish children that came back every summer returned as an adult with her own children to reunite with Kathy and her family. Kathy loved being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her son Steve Gibbon (Dara) of Oxford, N.Y., daughters, Amy Conklin (Shane) of Norwich, N.Y., and Brenda Gibbon Haltner (Robert) of CA and South New Berlin. Kathy was the proud grandmother of Thomas Gibbon, Abby and Emily Flynn, Robert, Kala,Otto and Atlas Haltner. She is also survived by her sisters Linda Boyer (Mike) of Kingston, N.Y. JoAnn Provo (Frank) of Little River, SC, Karen Webb (Warren) of Norwich, NY and Jacky Mikkonen of Peru, Maine. She also has several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and a sister-in-law. Kathy was employed until recently at EPI (Empowering People's Independence) of Binghamton where she really enjoyed working with the intellectually diverse. Kathy enjoyed being part of her community and was in multiple social clubs that were centered around her Italian heritage. Kathy was predeceased by her loving husband Bill Silvestri. He was the love of her life and they truly complimented each other. In Kathy's memory, practice random acts of kindness.
