Mary Louise Deyo-Walsh was reunited with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Mercy House, surrounded by her loved ones after a long battle with COPD leading to lung cancer at age 86. Mary was predeceased by her loyal and beloved husband, Michael J. Walsh; her parents, Kenneth and Eleanor Deyo; sister-in-law, Ellen McManus; and dear friend, who was more like a sister, Peggy Esmond. She is survived by her loving stepson, Michael and Karen Walsh, South Carolina; brother-in-law, Daniel and Shirley Walsh, Binghamton; brother-in-law, Edward and Patti Walsh, Iowa; sister-in-law, Mary C. (Katie) Walsh, Binghamton; brother-in-law, Joseph McManus, Ohio. Her devoted nieces and nephews she is also survived by Mark and Mary Beth Walsh, Wendy and Todd Stettinius, Binghamton; Carrie and Dan Goshorn, South Dakota; Leah and Jamie Worell, Iowa; Joseph and Lisa McManus, Katie and Scott Messer, Bridget and Chris Diehl, and Kelly McManus, Ohio; along with several other great nieces and nephews, especially Zachary, Alexander and Sydney Walsh, Alexia and Logan Stettinius, godson, Scott and Beth Esmond, special friends, Mert and Dorothy Esmond, and Nancy Yezzi. Mary was a devoted Catholic and a Saints John and Andrew parishioner. Mary was a Binghamton North High graduate in 1955. She then attended Binghamton General School of Nursing, where she earned her degree as a registered nurse. Mary was a caring and dedicated nurse for 40 years at UHS Binghamton General Hospital. She was an avid reader and adored her books; she was a committed Yankees fan, took pleasure in watching golf, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Predominately, Mary loved her pets, Joilee and Noah, who had a special place in Mary's heart.
Mary's life was devoted to God and her family. She was the best wife, stepmother, sister-in-law, godmother, aunt, great-aunt, and friend. She openly shared her beliefs with everyone and inspired others with her unwavering faith, integrity, kindness, and generosity. We want to thank the UHS General Hospital staff, M3, and Wilson Memorial Hospital staff for their kindness, devotion, and care. We also want to give our sincere thanks to Dr. Jimenez and his staff for their continued care for Mary throughout her life. We wish to extend a special thanks to Hospice, Mercy House of the Southern Tier, staff, clergy, and volunteers for their compassion, love, and support and for providing Mary with exceptional care in her last days with comfort, dignity, grace, and love. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Mary's memory may be made to the Mercy House, 212 N. McKinley Ave., Endicott 13760.
