Obituary of David L. Lindsey

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
January 15, 1942 – February 28, 2023 The world lost an amazing man on February 28, 2023, at his home surrounded by family after a short battle with liver cancer. He was welcomed home by his daughter Cheri Ann, who was waiting for him in heaven with open arms. He was predeceased by his parents Leonard and Lena Lindsey and his daughter Cheri Ann. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean; his children, Shelley (Tony) Wood, David (Kristy) Lindsey, Brenda (Tom) Butts; his grandchildren AJ (Alissa) Wood, Brody (Kayla) Wood, Nathan (Erin) Harendza, Jordyn Harendza, Donlei and Cameron Copper, Ken Butts, Hunter (Carlee) Butts, Alex Butts and Elizabeth Butts. The new sparkle in his eye Hudson Wood. Sisters Shirley Warner, Delores (Gene) Bunts; his brother-in-law Jerry (Christine) Gunsauls and many nephews, nieces and cousins and by many close and cherished friendships. Dave served proudly in the US Navy from July 1961 to May 1965 on the USS Vogelgesang. After leaving the service he joined the Binghamton Police Department on January 1, 1973. He was promoted to Sergeant on May 27, 1978, and retired on January 15, 1993, to spend more time with his family. Dave threw his hat into the political world becoming a Broome County Legislature for District 3 from 1991-1996 and 2001-2006. He was an active member of American Legion Post 1645 and VFW Post 478. After losing Cheri, Dave turned something bad into something good. He started a yearly raffle, which provided winter coats, scholarships, and many Christmas presents for needy children over the years. All someone had to do was ask and he would be the first to give anything to a child. Dave was a family man and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Better known as gramps, his grandchildren were his life. He lived to take care of them and give them whatever they needed or wanted. He was proud of each of them and their accomplishments. His most proud moment was when AJ followed in his footsteps and became a police officer. Anyone that knew Dave loved him and his witty personality. He was a jokester and loved playing jokes on his fellow officers. He always had a story to tell. He loved to sit on the front porch and talk to his many visitors. He touched so many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank his many doctors that have taken care of him over the years with their love and compassion. Dr. Ram and Dr. Lui, Broome Oncology (Dr Y), Dr. Barrett, Dr. Weinheimer, and Lourdes Hospice. In lieu of flowers, any donations can be sent to Cheri Lindsey Scholarship Fund c/o Shelley Wood 12 Mulberry St., Binghamton, NY 13901. Funeral Services will be held at the J.A.
