Mary E. McGory Obituary
Mary E. (Murphy) McGory, 102, died Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at Mercy House. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ellen McGory. Acknowledged by all as the matriarch of the Murphy and McGory families, she is also survived by 23 loving nieces and nephews.
Born April 4, 1920 in Binghamton, Mary was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, James D. McGory on November 8, 1986, her father, Leo P. Murphy (1976), her mother, Anna (Duffy) Murphy (1977), brothers, Raymond J. (1980), Edward L. (1994), William J. (2001), Rev. Daniel G. (2011), and sisters, Madeline Alter (1998), Teresa James (2008) and her son James L. McGory (2020)
A graduate of St. Mary's Grammar School 1934, St. Paul's High School 1938, and the cadet nurse program at Wilson Memorial School of Nursing 1947, Mary was a former employee of Montgomery Ward, Fairplay Caramels, and Ozalid. She worked as an industrial nurse at Kroehler's, Link's and Ansco, retiring in 1977, and a doctor's office nurse in the Binghamton Area, including the office of pediatrician, Dr. John Burns.
A 69 year member of Ss. John and Andrew Church and its Altar Rosary Society, Mary was also for many years faithful to Perpetual Adoration at St. Patrick's Church. Mary will always be warmly remembered for her countless family parties, backyard picnics, and holiday dinners, and was a 50 year member of her Bridge Club. Her husband, mother, father and son all died at her home.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Avenue, Binghamton, Friday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Whitney Point on Saturday at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Friday from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Expressions of sympathy in Mary's memory may be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 N.
