Obituary of Abbie Walters

Abbie J. Walters, 86, of Binghamton, died Saturday, January 18, 2014. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald R. Walters; an infant daughter, Donna; her parents, Earl and Teresa Holmes; her brothers, Frank and George Holmes; and a sister, Nellie Holmes. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Phil Barton, Greene; granddaughter, Haley Miguel and Cory Transue, Greene; great-granddaughter, Annabelle Transue; her identical twin sister, Theresa and Wendell Tanner, Cortland; step-grandchildren, Matthew and Daniella Barton, Seranda, Dylan and Lily Barton; and her extended family, the Shirley Barton family. She was very devoted to her family, was an avid NY Mets fan and a very strong-willed woman. Special thanks to Bob and Linda Zanruscha and family for their years of care for Abbie and to the girls from Caregivers. Funeral and Interment Services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Wednesday at 1 p.m. Pastor Curtis Whitman, pastor of the First Congregational Church, Greene, will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Wednesday from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Abbie may be made to Ovarian Cancer Research or the Greene Playground Committee.
