After retirement he truly enjoyed attending his grandchildren's many athletic events, as well as musical and theatrical productions. He played senior softball for a number of years and was a member of the National Champion Karousel Kids. Baseball was his passion and he passed on his love of sports to his children and grandchildren. He loved to travel with Sandy and they were members of the Polka Paraders and enjoyed ballroom dancing.
The family would like to thank Dr John Perry for his wonderful and compassionate care, as well as the staff of UHS North Tower 2 and Krembs 4, the BGH Welcome Center, and Lourdes Hospice. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Lourdes Hospice in Joe's memory.
Papo, as the grandchildren lovingly referred to him, was generous with inspirational quotes. A recent favorite was "I want you to believe deep in your heart that you are capable of achieving anything that you put your mind to. That you will never lose- you'll either win or just go forth and aim high. I cannot promise to be here for the rest of your life; but I can promise to love you dearly for the rest of mine".
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Main Street, Johnson City, Saturday September 3, 2022 at 12 noon. The family will receive friends at St. James Church, Saturday from 11 a.m. until 12 noon.
