Obituary of Joann B. Riley

Joann B. Riley, 92, of Binghamton died Saturday morning, July 30, 2022 at her daughter Maureen's home in Orlando FL after a brief illness from respiratory complications of the COVID-19 virus. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Robert D. Riley, and her parents, Hyman and Esther Bernstein. She is survived by her children, Mark and Danise Riley, Port Washington NY; Kathleen and Bob Brown, Bermuda; Rebecca and Jim Daly, Winter Garden FL; Maureen Riley and Alan Hendrickson, Orlando FL; her grandchildren, Robert and Kylie Riley, Michael Riley and his fiancée Alexis Ryan, Kelly Riley and her fiancé Luke Whitting, Jamie Daly, Katie Thornton, and Tricia Daly; her great grandchildren, Christian Daly and Bailey Thornton; her cousin, Jeanne Murphy; her best friend, Kay Matthews; her nephew, Joe and Luane Riley and their family. Joann was a member of St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton, where she was a Lector and Eucharistic Minister and a Reader and Eucharistic Minister at Lourdes Hospital. She was a retired teacher of Catholic Schools of Broome County, including over 20 years at St. Patrick's School. She was a member of the Ladies of Charity with volunteer service at the Nearly New Shop and Lourdes Hospital Gift Shop. Joann graduated from Binghamton Central High School in 1948 and Marymount College, Tarrytown NY in 1952. The family wishes to thank Dr. R. A. Ramanujan and his staff for many years of compassionate care to Joann prior to her recent time in Orlando FL. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton, Saturday, August 20 at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J. A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Friday, August 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Joann may be made to Catholic Schools of Broome County, 70 Seminary Ave., Binghamton NY 13905 or Lourdes Hospital Foundation, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton NY 13905.
