Please share a memory of Irene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Irene N. Vitkus was born on May 22, 1918 in Ithaca, NY and passed away peacefully on May 24, 2022 at Susquehanna Nursing Home. Irene lived to the amazing age of 104 and truly enjoyed every day of those years surrounded by the love of her family and countless dear friends. Irene lived her life in Binghamton, NY. She worked as a hairdresser for many years at Tony's Hair Salon. She married the love her life, Donald, in 1952 and they moved to their home that they cherished together for many years. Irene spent many happy years in her yard tending to her beautiful flowers (especially her prized roses) that were the envy of the neighborhood. Irene was a faithful member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Binghamton and was very active in volunteering in many clubs and activities. She was a member of the Daughters of Charity and loved working in the Nearly New Shop. She and Don were members of the Over 50 Club and were always packing to go on every trip with their friends. Irene and Don were avid bowlers and belonged to many leagues over the years. They were active in the local senior centers and participated in their activities. Irene enjoyed playing cards and was well known as a very capable player. Irene was quietly very generous to many charities, especially those involving children. Irene was predeceased by her parents, George and Mary Neswadi and her brothers George and John (Blossom) Neswadi. She lost her beloved Don in 2002 and missed him dearly ever since. Left to cherish her memory are her nephew John and Suzanne Neswadi and her niece Barbara and Jim Adkinson. She will be missed by all her remaining friends and neighbors, especially members of the Clarke family that cared for her as family. A special thanks to her caregivers and staff and Susquehanna Nursing Home who all lovingly cared for her for over 10 years. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Avenue, Binghamton, Wednesday at 1 p.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.
