Obituary of Anna June Barno

Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anna "June" Barno, age 89, passed away peacefully Tuesday April 26, after an extended illness. She was predeceased by her parents who emigrated from Italy: Alfonso & Anna DelVecchio, and by her brother, Stephen DelVecchio of Schenectady, NY, where they were raised among a large loving family. June earned both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from New York State College for Teachers at Albany, New York, where she met her husband, Bob. She was a member of Beta Zeta sorority and loved to ski and play tennis in her younger years. June went on to teach in Hamilton NY, married Bob, and moved to Vestal NY where they raised their family. June taught business classes at Broome Community College and at Vestal High School. She volunteered at, and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church since its origin at the Vestal Plaza. Additionally, she served as a volunteer at Lourdes Hospital and a local food pantry. June loved big cities, air travel, and annual family vacations in Westerly, RI. June was an avid baker and reader; her nose was always buried in a book. June looked forward to nightly walks through SUNY Binghamton campus, hand-in-hand with Bob. Her greatest calling was motherhood; she dedicated her life to her family. Her grandchildren have treasured memories of their time with her: their annual birthday luncheon to the restaurant of their choice, the photos of them that she put in their birthday cards and notes, her letters to them with a bit of money, telling them to "buy a little treat" and that she loved them "a bushel and a peck." June is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Robert Barno, her 4 daughters Leslie Dean (Joe), Kathy Buglione (Ray), Sue Ward (Mike), and Nancy Barno Reynolds (Dan); 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and dear in-laws, Joan DelVecchio, Robert Gibson, Madeline Barno, Mary Barno, and numerous nieces and nephews. Our family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to June's caregivers for their steadfast kindness and caring while caring for our mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lourdes Hospital Foundation (Hospice), 169 Riverside Drive, Suite 103, Binghamton, NY 13905 or St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, 165 Clifton Boulevard, Vestal, NY 13850.
