Obituary of Catherine M. Gazda

Catherine Marie Gazda, 96 years of age, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2022 at Mercy House in Endicott, New York with her three children by her side. Catherine was born in Chenango Forks, New York. After graduating from High School she enrolled in Binghamton General Hospital School of Nursing. Upon completion of that program, our mom worked for almost 45 years as a registered nurse at Binghamton General Hospital. She loved taking care of people. For mom, the patients were never a burden. She was a nurse when nurses wore starched white caps, white shoes, and a white uniform. On most mornings our mom would walk to work. She loved being a nurse, but she cherished her family more. Our mom was a terrific cook and a fantastic baker. When schools and churches had bake sales, she always had the most perfect cakes and cupcakes, which she made after working all day and then coming home to care for her family. Mom also enjoyed her nightly Manhattan with our dad, who predeceased her in 2019. Thanks to her sons, our mom was able to live in her own home up until 10 days before she passed away. Her sons Bill and Jim took immaculate care of our mom. Catherine is survived by her twin sons, Bill Gazda and Jim Gazda of Binghamton, New York. She is also survived by her daughter, Karen Gazda and her son in law, Michael Klimkewicz of Clifton Park, New York. Mom is also survived by her beloved grandson, Ryan Klimkewicz of Denver, Colorado. Many loving thanks to The Mercy House staff in Endicott, New York which took such loving care of our mom in her last days. We would also like to thank Cathy McGreal of Binghamton who helped take care of our mom for several years. Funeral Services will be held at Trinity Memorial Episcopal Church, 44 Main Street, Binghamton, Saturday June 18, 2022 at 12 noon. Rev. Glenn Mahaffey will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the Hoyt Room at Trinity Memorial Church, Saturday June 18, 2022 from 11 a.m. until 12 noon. In lieu of flowers, Donations to Mercy House 212 N. McKinley Ave, Endicott, NY 13760 would be greatly appreciated. Mom took such good and loving care of her family. May God take care of her now.
