Obituary of Loretta A. King

Loretta Donovan King, 93, passed away on December 26th, 2013 at Susquehanna Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Johnson City, NY. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Ida Sullivan Donovan of Brackney, PA; along with a sister, Margaret Whalen; brothers, Gerald and Jeremiah; and nephews, Leo and John Whalen. She is survived by John King, her husband of 67 years; her son, Patrick of Pittsburg, CA; and granddaughter, Cristina of Oakland, CA. She is also survived by nephews, Neil and Paul Donovan, Robert Whalen, and Billy Donovan. Also surviving are nieces, Betty Donovan and Jackie Donovan Laing; and sister-in-law, Virginia Donovan. John's special niece, Mary Ellen Bronson, was like a daughter, especially during Loretta's last years of failing health. Loretta and John owned a home at Lake Lorain in Poyntelle, PA for 42 years, where they were active members of the Lake Loraine Cottagers Association. She enjoyed the Tuesday Night Golf League, bicycle riding, snowmobiling, and hiking the countryside trails. She loved Irish music and dancing and was a regular participant in the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Loretta was a longtime member of St. Juliana Church in Rock Lake, PA. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Binghamton, on Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Silver Lake, PA, in the spring. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Sunday from 1-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Loretta may be made to Northern Wayne Community Library, 11 Library Rd., Route 370, Lakewood, PA 18439.
