Brian W. Murphy, 74, of Binghamton, NY passed away at home on Wednesday, September 22, 2021 after a battle with ALS. Brian was born in Binghamton, NY on February 28, 1947 to William and Mary Murphy, both deceased. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Marlene; daughter Colleen and her husband Mark Selby; son Patrick and his husband John Simmons; son-in-law Chad and his wife Susan; grandchildren Chelsea, Jack, and Anderson; sister-in-law Ellen; brother Phil and his wife Carol; brother Neil and his wife Carol; brother Tim and his wife Marsha; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his daughter Kelly Murphy Lamphere, and his brother Tom. Brian graduated from Vestal (NY) HS in 1965, and trained to become a Master Electrician at Blanding Electric becoming a lifetime union member of IBEW 325, before working at IBM and ultimately becoming the Power House Project Manager for the IBM Endicott Plant. Brian volunteered as an electrician and served on the parish councils of Blessed Sacrament and St. Vincent De Paul Blessed Sacrament for several decades. After retiring in 2010, Brian devoted his time and talents to Broome County Habitat for Humanity. Brian was also an active member of the Binghamton Ancient Order of Hibernians, proudly acting as the co-chair of the annual post-St. Patrick's Parade fundraiser at Seton Catholic Central HS for over 20 years. Brian was a famously serene, consummately clean, faithful family man. His steadiness, reliability, and gentle smile were a comfort to everyone who knew him. The Murphy family thanks their many friends for their support throughout Brian's illness, the ALS Clinic at Upstate Medical Center, Twin Tier Home Health, and Lourdes Hospice Care. Brian's family will receive friends at J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, NY, from 4-7pm on Monday, September 27, 2021. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Vincent De Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, 465 Clubhouse Road, Vestal, NY on Tuesday, September 28, 2021 at 10am followed by a burial at St. Augustine's Cemetery in Brackney, PA. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to tribute in memory of Brian may make contributions to Broome County Habitat for Humanity (online at broomehabitat.org, or by mail at 103 Adams Ave, Endicott, NY 13760), or to Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry c/o St. Vincent Blessed Sacrament Church (online at stvbs.org/online-giving or by mail at 165 Clifton Boulevard, Vestal, NY 13850).
