Obituary of David M. McKeon
Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Michael McKeon, 79, passed away peacefully with family by his side on August 7, 2021. He is predeceased by parents, Anthony and Mary McKeon; brother George, sister Mary Davis; in-laws Reese Munro and Nancy Egan, and his beloved wife Jacqueline. He is survived by sons Gregory (Jeri-Anne), Nathan and Joseph; grandchildren Shea and Madalena; sisters Kathy Munro and Maggie Robinson; brothers John (Joan), Dennis (Linda); in-laws Rita McKeon, Larry Davis, Casey (Karen) Dunn. He also had an army of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends that loved and looked after him, too many to list.
David grew up in Maine, NY and resided in Binghamton. He served in the U.S. Navy and actively served in the Cuban Missile Crisis. In 1968, David proudly joined the Binghamton Police Department and served in many roles over 30 years, retiring as Detective Lieutenant.
David was a devout Catholic and active member of The Parish of Saints John and Andrew. He enjoyed camping, hunting, carpentry, gardening, theater, volunteering, his pets, and back in his day, a good bar stool or card game. In later years, he cherished spending time with his adored grandchildren, attending their games and recitals. He loved his NY Giants and LA Dodgers. He hated the Yankees and let everybody know it. David had an outgoing personality; he was not afraid to put himself out there for a good laugh and often did when acting for the Rockbottom Players. And yes, he could be quite stubborn, particularly when it came to letting his health ailments slow him down. He was loved by most, hated by few, respected by all.
In lieu of flowers, David would appreciate it if you looked out for his special great-nephew Cole by considering a donation to The Golden Lights Foundation (goldenlightsfoundation.org) which seeks to find a cure for pediatric cancer.
