John J. (Jack) Stevens, 89, of Johnson City, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2013 after a long, full life. He is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Lillian. He is predeceased by his first wife of 48 years, Marion. He is survived by his four children, Tom Stevens and his wife Sally of Cape Coral, FL, Mark Stevens and his wife Denise, of Aurora, CO, Peggy Ricciuto and her husband Tony of Binghamton, NY, and Kathy Stevens of Boston, MA. In addition, Jack was welcomed into Lillian's (Transue) children's family, Barry, Kevin, Mary, Chris, Jim, and Scott. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were very near and dear to his heart. Jack proudly served his country during World War II as a radioman aboard the naval destroyer escort U.S.S. Walter C. Wann. He and Lillian attended several reunions with Jack's shipmates. He worked for IBM for 33 years. Upon retiring, Jack enjoyed many hobbies and activities. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed a good card game, and above all, spending time with his family and friends. For many years, you could find Jack clearing his neighbors' sidewalks of snow and sharing the bounties from his garden. Jack was very generous with his time, volunteering at CHOW and St. Patrick's/St. Thomas church activities. He was an active member of the St. John Vianney Society as well as the St. Patrick's/St. Thomas Seniors Group. A Funeral Mass will be offered in St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton, Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Monday from 4-7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Jack may be made to St. Patrick's Church Restoration Fund, 9 Leroy St., Binghamton, NY 13905.
