Obituary of Florence E. Savo

Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Florence Ellen Savo passed away to eternal life on June 27, 2021. She was born on July 3, 1922, in Harpursville, NY, to Joseph and Jeannette Altiery, and later the family moved to Binghamton. Florence was a graduate of North High School where she met Robert (Bob) Savo. She worked at IBM until she married Bob. Florence was active in St. Thomas Aquinas School and Church and she was President of St. Thomas Rosary and Altar Society. She was in the Lourdes Hospital Auxiliary for years, often working in the Gift and Sweet Shops. Florence had a long and successful career in real estate becoming a broker and owning her own business. She traveled the world with Bob through his long career at Link Aviation. For years they went to many NY Giants and NY Yankees games and also took annual family trips to Miami Beach, NYC and Jones Beach. Florence was an amazing cook and baker all her life - everyone enjoyed her homemade spaghetti and meatballs on Sundays and many other Italian dishes and sweets; she cooked right into her late 90s! After Florence and Bob retired they wintered in Fort Lauderdale for 27 years where they were active members of the Italian American Club, took many cruises with friends and family, and enjoyed their time in Florida away from the cold NY winters! Florence was a long time tennis player and she played in both NY and FL until well into her 80s. Florence was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bob, and her Sisters Lena (Dominic) DeOrazio and Josphine (Fred) Malenich. She is survived by her Son Robert (Tina) Savo; Daughters Rita (Ed) Grenchus and Terri (Mike) Benson; Grandson Nick (Maggi) Savo; Granddaughters Jennifer and Gabby Grenchus and Gina Savo; Great Granddaughter Eva and Great Grandson Sterling, along with many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. Special thanks to Beverly Moschak who helped Florence stay in her home for more than a year, and to the wonderful staff of Lourdes Hospital Seton 3 and Susquehanna Nursing and Rehabilitation Center 2nd floor. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton, Friday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.
