Obituary of Paul N. Greenwald

Paul Nicholas Greenwald of Johnson City passes away at his home on May 18, 2021. Paul was predeceased by his parents, Marion and Herbert Greenwald, his step-father, Thomas McNamara and his brother-in –law, Thomas Thayne. Paul is survived by a sister, Carol Thayne of Binghamton and a brother and sister-in-law William and Ilene Greenwald of Johnson City; also by his nephews, Timothy Thayne of Binghamton and Daniel (Magda) Thayne of Liverpool and his niece Karen Palmer-Thayne (William); his great nephew and nieces, Thomas Thayne, Mary Thayne and Trinity Palmer and also by Abigail Palmer and Hailey Messenger. They were his "grandchildren" and he loved and enjoyed them. Born in Scranton, PA on December 14, 1948, Paul came to Binghamton at the age of 12 and graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1966. He went on to graduate with honors from both SUNY Broome and SUNY Binghamton. For many years he was employed by Newchannels. Paul loved his sports. He loved the game of golf and was an avid and accomplished golfer for many years. He will also be remembered by his neighbors for his beautiful hanging baskets which he loved. Through his lifetime interest in sports and his commitments of the last 20 years he made many good and loyal friends, all of them enriching his life in so many ways. He loved and appreciated all of you. Paul will be remembered by his family for all the unique gifts he presented to us. Paul was the "mashed potato" guy at family gatherings. Sadly he took that recipe with him. At Paul's request there will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass will be offered at St. Paul's Church, Chenango Street, Binghamton, Monday at 9:30 a.m. for those who wish to say goodbye. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City.
