Obituary of Edward N. Coughlin

Edward N. Coughlin, of Binghamton, New York, passed away on January 16, 2021 at the age of 83. Edward was born in 1937, and is predeceased by his parents, Norbert and Mary Coughlin (Walsh) from Binghamton. Edward was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and pop-pop. Edward is survived by his devoted wife, Marianne Coughlin (Haley), of 62 years. Edward and Marianne have known each other their entire lives. They were born on the same day, in the same year, in the same hospital. They were meant to be. He is also survived by his five children, Kevin Coughlin, Michael Coughlin (Natalia), Edward Coughlin (Amy), Daniel Coughlin (Janet), and Colleen Ippolito (Edward). He was blessed to have 14 grandchildren Neil, Brittany, Brianna, Larissa, Katie, Kayla, Kelsey, Edward, Ryan, Haley, Hannah, Taylor, Kyle, and Kaileigh, and three great-grandchildren Audriana, Sienna, and Walden, and several cousins. He had unconditional love for his family and friends. His sense of humor and quick-wit, along with his calm demeanor, got them through the good times and the difficult. Edward and Marianne moved to New Jersey in 1959, where Edward worked for IBM for 27 years, retiring at the age of 50. He loved traveling with his wife, golfing with his sons, spending time with his daughter and grandchildren and going to lunch with his friends. He had an avid passion for golf and enjoyed organizing the annual "Coughlin Open" golf outings for friends and family all over the country for 37 years. Edward and Marianne returned to their roots, moving back to Binghamton in 2008. He lived life to the fullest, and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Avenue, Binghamton, Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Silver Lake, PA in the spring. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m.
