Obituary of Leonard G. Verrastro Jr.

Leonard G. Verrastro passed away unexpectedly in his home November 27, 2013. Lenny is predeceased by his parents, Leonard Sr. and Antoinette Verrastro and is survived by his wife of 30 years, Deborah Verrastro; sons, Jason (DG) Verrastro, Rome Verrastro, and Evan Verrastro; and daughter, Cali Verrastro; his brothers, Canio (Kelly) Verrastro and Fran (Chrissi) Verrastro. He will be missed by many in-laws, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and friends. Lenny graduated from Johnson City High School in 1972. He began employment at Broome Tioga BOCES as a masonry teacher in 1985 and has been a devoted employee since. Lenny has had numerous national winners as SkillsUSA and has touched the lives of all of his students while being a role model to many. Lenny was the rock of his family and will be remembered as an incredible family man. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and will live on by many as the "King of Garlic." Lenny took pride in his role as the Commander in Chief of the Sons of The American Legion Post 1305. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, on Sunday December 1, 2013, from 1-3 p.m. A memorial service to follow. Rev. Corey S. VanKuren will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to BOCES CTE Leadership/SkillsUSA, 435 Glenwood Road, Binghamton, NY 13905. A scholarship will be established in Lenny's name. "Gone but not forgotten, although we are apart. Your spirit lives within us, forever in our hearts."
