Obituary of Carolyn L. O'Connell

Carolyn Leonard O'Connell, 83, went to be with the Lord and the Love of her life, Thomas on December 8th, 2020. Carolyn was born and raised in Johnson City, NY. She graduated from Johnson City High School. She attended and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Dentistry – Oral Hygiene and was a dental hygienist for more than 40 years, beginning her career with the Maine Endwell School System and ultimately retiring from Marusich and Conti Dental. Carolyn was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church and was very involved in its mission having taught CCD there for many years; she was a Eucharistic Minister and provided the Eucharist and readings to residents of Woodland Village. Carolyn played the piano and loved to work on crossword puzzles. Mostly though, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Carolyn was predeceased by her Husband Thomas; parents, Dr. Harold and Mary McCarthy Leonard; her sisters, Dolores Bartholomew and Mary Ethel Mahoney; her brother-in-law Edward Mahoney; sisters-in-law, Mary Laury O'Connell and Marilyn O'Connell McGlynn; brother-in-law John F. McGlynn. She is survived by her Sister and Brother-in-Law: Lorna Leonard and Robert Walters; and Brother-in-Law James O'Connell. Carolyn is also survived by her four children; Maureen (Nelson) Nieves; Joseph (Sandra) O'Connell; Kathleen (Patrick) Farrell; and Margaret (Dennis) Smith; Seven grandchildren: Brittany (Josh) Toliver, Zachary Phillips and Lindsay Phillips, Meghan (Jeff) Ashman, Kaitlin (Keith) Parker, Alexander Leone, Brian Leone; five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the SNF and MC staff of Good Shepherd Village of Endwell for their care during this difficult time. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Clubhouse Road, Vestal, NY on Saturday, December 12th, 2020 at 10am. There will be no visitation hours and a private Burial service will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY.
