Ione Emma (McVee) Whalen, RN, born on April 14, 1927 passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Saturday, January 26, 2019. She was predeceased by her husband, James Whalen and son, Patrick Whalen. Ione is survived by her children Mrs. Kathie (James) White, Mrs. Suzanne (Michael) Vimislik and Michael (Karen) Whalen; grandchildren Bryan (Denise) White, Bridget (Nicholas) Voorhies, David White, Jay (Jennifer) Vimislik, Jeffrey (Por) Vimislik, Sarah (Raj) Marathe, Kristen {Mitt} (Jason) Hyatt, Oshawa Hill, Meghan (AJ) Gorton, Brendan (Megan) Whalen, Katelyn Whalen, Ryan (Dana) Whalen, and 16 great grandchildren. Ione graduated from Watertown High School. In 1960, she moved with her family to Binghamton. She later graduated from Broome Community College to follow her dream to become an RN. Ione worked at Lourdes Hospital for 27 years as a cardiac nurse. Ione was a creative artist and belonged to the Cooperative Art Gallery in Binghamton. She taught painting at local shops and loved to quilt. She was a member of SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, Binghamton. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff on 2 North at Willow Point Nursing Home. Funeral Services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Wednesday at 12 noon. Rev. John P. Donovan will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, in the spring. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon.
