Obituary of Patricia A. Tomic

Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Patricia A. Tomic passed away December 8, 2018 after a brief illness with her family by her side. She was 90 years old. She was predeceased by her parents, Andrew & Josephine Belensky, husband Edward, sister Evelyn, and brother Ron. Patricia is survived by her children; William Tomic (Karen), Nancy O'Brien (Jerry Sr.), and Susan Tomic (Kate); grandchildren Alice Kiereck (John), Liz Tomic, Jessica O'Brien, Julia O'Brien, Jerry O'Brien Jr., and Chelsea Anderson; and great-granddaughter Emma Kiereck. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. Patricia lived a long and full life with many cherished memories. She was athletic, and would enjoy reminiscing about her years as a high school cheerleader. After high school, she worked alongside her father and sister as a beautician at the family beauty parlor, Andy's, in downtown Binghamton. After her marriage in 1950, Pat and Ed raised their family on the North side of Johnson City. She also spent many happy years as a teacher's aide in the Johnson City Schools. In later years, she delighted in meeting her grown-up students around town, remembering them fondly, as well as the family of co-workers from the school system. After retirement, Pat and Ed enjoyed many trips to warmer climates with their friends, as well as spending time with their children and grandchildren. After Ed's passing, Pat continued to travel with friends and volunteer with the Binghamton Professional Women's club. Nothing gave Pat more joy than spending time watching her children and grandchildren grow, and playing with her great-granddaughter, Emma. She had a great sense of humor and she loved a good laugh. At her 90th Birthday Party in March 2018, she entertained her guests by dancing to the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song "I'm going to make it after all" and tossing her hat to the crowd. She is remembered as a role model and true friend to many in her circle of relatives and friends. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Main Street, Johnson City, Friday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Slovak Catholic Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Patricia's memory may be made to Broome-Tioga Special Olympics, 1 Walnut Place, Apalachin, NY 13732.
