Obituary of Gerald F. Matthews

Gerald (Jerry) Matthews, 53, of Binghamton, NY passed away after a long and arduous battle with complications from diabetes on the morning of December 2nd, 2018 at Wilson Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents Donald and Katherine Matthews. Jerry is survived by his siblings and their spouses; Carolyn Matthews (Donna), Maureen Clark (Terry), his Guardian Angel and sister Eileen Matthews, Donald Matthews (Alice), Peggy Warner (Ken), Amy Krueger (Ken); his nieces and nephews Megan, Nathan, Adam, Kristin, Libby, Brendan, Paul, Andrew, Michaella, Grace, and Lilly. He was always overjoyed to spend time with his great-nieces and nephews; Ethan, Rosalyn, Silas, Harper, Dylan, Eleanor, Luisa, Austin, Aiden, and Reagan. He graduated from Seton Catholic Central and joined the Carpenters Union Local 281 where he worked for many years. Jerry was a family man and a loving Uncle to many. He was always willing to lend his carpentry and mechanical skills to friends and family. Jerry was a dialysis patient for many years, and appreciated the many helpful staff members of Fresenius Kidney Care. His family and friends will always remember him as a quiet, helpful and kind soul. Funeral Services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Friday at 12 noon. Rev. Msgr. John P. Putano will officiate. Burial will be Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Friday from 11a.m. until 12 noon. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jerry's life. The family would like to thank the staff of Wilson Memorial Hospital for their attentive care not only in the past few days, but during Jerry's many difficulties throughout the years.
