Many miles of laughter & serious or lighthearted talk were spent in the Caveny or TCJet mobile as we traveled to various arenas, gyms and fields with so many excellent Broome County athletes. I will always remember laughing so hard at some of John's one liner comments, and the shared humor among those of us along for the trip. Mickey G, Alan K, AL D, Joe G, Ray S, Harlan B, were a few of the athletes who simply enjoyed playing the season sport.
John was a tremendous inside basketball player who was determined to be the best that he could be in every event he played. Being limited in bb ability, he was amazing in how he could out maneuver bigger players inside.
It was a real pleasure to have known John for the decade we played as a team. In sport terms John was a class act.

To John's family - I am very sorry for your loss. While I did not have the pleasure of knowing John personally, after reading his obituary I certainly could tell he was loved and cherished by his family and friends. My sincere condolences to all of you for losing him too soon. May the many great memories you all share comfort you now and in the future.

John was my basketball coach in 1968! He set a standard of excellence in all he did, both on the court and off. His affiliation and guidance lead me to a career in the casket industry for 45 years! He a true mentor to many young men, and a family man of the highest calibre. He will be sorely missed by all....His ability to make people laugh was endless. Today's world needs more people like John. A consummate professional in every way! Ron & Kathie Reich

Dear Bonnie & Family,
John will always be considered our "Best Man" and a dearest friend over the years and Frank was honored to be John's "Best Man" at your wedding. We fondly recall how our friendship was sustained from McCool Ave in East Syracuse to Red Hook to Vestal and then to Charlotte. The most recent blessing was the quality time spent just a few weeks ago at lunch with you and John. He never met a "stranger" and demonstrated deep faith in God, courage, dignity, and a lasting legacy for all of us. Most of all we will miss his "jokes" that kept us smiling for hours on end!
May the Lord welcome him home with his Mom & Dad, and Helen.

Bonnie and family,
I feel like I have known John for most of my life. He called on my dad and I for years with Marsellus, he was my partner for a couple of Norwich Member-Guest tournaments and was a casket bearer at my dads funeral. Simply put...a great guy and I will miss him. Prayers for all of you.

A pillar to his own friends and family, John was much the same to so many of us, his kids' friends, we who were blessed to be with him, hear his stories, laugh with him, or best of all, get his acknowledgment of a game well played afterwards. That's the think I'll remember better and longer than anything else: I just loved being around John Caveny.

It is with great sadness to learn of John's passing, although expected because of his recent battles with health. He will be deeply missed by the many whom were blessed to have known his person. John's smile, humor, laughter and general positive attitude lightened up any room he entered. A bright, athletic guy that so loved basketball and golf and more importantly, the people that played or coached these sports. He had a great heart for all folks and his Christian optimistic view of life was so very evident to all. I will not soon forget his many visits to my athletic office at Binghamton University to analyze an upcoming game or laugh about a recent round of golf. Make no mistake, John was always a great competitor and so enjoyed the contests before him. I will never forget after the North Carolina game at Chapel Hill and playing 36 holes of golf the following day with he, assistant basketball coach, Randy Dunton and one of his friends at the great Pinehurst golf area. Wishing the God's Grace to wonderfully supportive wife, Barb, and all of John's family members that he loved so much. Godspeed!

MaryAnn and I send our condolences to Bonnie and John's tremendous family. John was a great friend to all who met him. He always brightened our days with his humor. He was the perfect guest at a wake and insured it had a bit of Irish as he always brought the laughter. Most of our time together was at Funeral Homes and all of John's customers enjoyed and appreciated his visits when he represented Marsellus and Batesville. John had his own style he rarely wore a suit and tie. His uniform was usually a golf shirt and golf pants. He often would be shooting baskets with the funeral home owners kids. There also was a serious side to John. His commitment to his family and friends, His dedication to helping funeral directors identify ways to help their families through the grief process. Whenever you were with John for any length of time you were impressed by his values and spirituality. He was a mentor to me and I will never forget the many lessons that I learned from John.

Just a good good man loved by many in the community. When someone thinks of The Caveny family, there is only positive and strong commentary. One fun memory I have of Mr. Caveny was that after Pat and Wendy's wedding, Mr. and Mrs. Caveny somehow had to drive Paul Staib and me to my house on Marietta Drive. (It was probably a good idea to catch a ride if I remember correctly) Anyway, Paul was in rare form talking about the polyester tie he was wearing or Mr. Caveny was wearing. He kept talking about wearing all that poly...so stylin. And it was so funny. All four of us were cracking up in the car.
Much love and prayers to all the Caveny family at this time.

John Caveny was one of the best known and best liked graduates of LeMoyne College. He was the closest we could get to Arnold Palmer as, like Arnold Palmer, he had so many friends who all thought that they were his best friend. That is just the way he was and that is just the way he made everyone feel! Johns` death leaves a huge hole in my life as he was truly one of my very best friends for some 60 years. What Gilbert Chesterton said many years ago seems perfectly applicable; "Great men take up great space even when gone". John Caveny will never be forgotten. May God bless Bonnie and their exceptional family during the difficult days ahead.

My dear condolences to Barbara, son John and the entire Caveny family. I worked and traveled with John for many years covering Binghamton University basketball and he was one of the most pleasant, caring and personable men I've known. Further, his work as Master of Ceremonies for our various Hall of Fame and other sports banquets was legendary, as nobody could entertain a crowd like John. He interacted with and promoted so many other people and yet his personal accomplishments were always understated, despite being considerable. I will miss his smile and cheery nature, as I know so many people will. God bless him and the Caveny family during this difficult time.

Uncle John ,
So glad we could spend sometime togeather the last few years , playing in Sams golf tournament was always fun , splitting the pie driving home with Patrick and Johnny was great . You and I were the only 2 out of 500 that were not drinking.
Was always nice to give you a call and talk about a game or 2 , the same thing I’d did with my Dad on a weekly bases .
When I see you again let’s work on that golf swing and jump shot.
Love Luke.

Bonnie, So sorry to hear of John’s death. John was a great guy and a friend and associate when we both worked for the Marsellus family. His humor and style brought us all to have a great respect for his interaction at our sales meetings. We pray your family will have our Father at your side.8
