John F. "Jack" Cronin, 63, of Binghamton, passed away with loved ones at his side on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Wilson Memorial Hospital. Jack was predeceased by his parents, John F. and Mary Helen (McCarthy) Cronin; and maternal grandparents, Timothy and Kathryn (Boland) McCarthy; and paternal grandparents, James P. and Mary Anne (Brady) Cronin. Jack is survived by his loving sister, M. Kathryn (Kathy) Cronin of Binghamton; his special friend, Kate Fenstemacher of Endwell; and several cousins. Jack served in the National Guard 204th Engineer Battalion and received the NY State Aid to Civil Authority Medal in 1972. Jack was a 1969 graduate of Binghamton Central High School and 1972 graduate of Broome Community College. He also attended Utica College. He had been a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Jack had been active in the community with the Mended Hearts of the Twin Tiers, Elks Club, Jaycees, serving on the board of the Mental Health Association, and active in many local political activities and campaigns. He had served as a corrections officer at the Broome County Jail and a counselor at the Alcohol Counseling of Broome County. Jack will also be remembered by entertaining people with his piano playing. The family would like to give thanks to the staff at Greater Binghamton Health Center, Wilson Memorial Hospital, and Lourdes Hospice for the wonderful care given to Jack. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Saturday at 12 noon. Reverend Msgr. John P. Putano will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Saturday from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Memorial contributions in Jack's memory may be made to Greater Binghamton Health Center L1A, 425 Robinson St., Binghamton, NY 13904; Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier, 153 Court St., Binghamton, NY 13901.
