Obituary of Margaret L. McCabe

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Flynn McCabe, 97, of Johnson City went to her eternal reward on May 12, 2018, the eve of Mother's Day. What a wonderful, loving wife and mother she was. A Glorious Mother's Day celebration awaited her with God, the Blessed Mother, and all of her family and friends who predeceased her. Faith and Family meant everything to Margaret. All of her values centered around faith and family. Those were the themes expressed in her 2 published books of poetry, "Memories in the Attic," and "Time to Remember." Forgive a slight change to a portion of her Memories in the Attic poem: "Rain clouds are clearing, tis time to rise up. Leaving old memories scattered on the floor, To walk in God's world of eternal joy, Waiting for me beyond my attic door." Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, James McCabe, Sr., her parents, Frank and Catherine Flynn; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert and Catherine McCabe; her brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Marion Flynn; her sister, Rita; her twin sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Robert McMahon; her brother, Jack; her in-laws on the McCabe side, Robert, Marie Skinner, Kathleen and Jack Hawley, Alice and Al Stank, Gerald and Joyce, Helen and Leonard Laskowski, Martin and Eugene. Our mom and dad were loving parents to all of us, their 7 children, for which we will be forever grateful. She is survived by her 7 children and their spouses, James and Rose, Patricia and Paul, Thomas and Polly, Robert, Dennis and Sandra, Gerard and Patty, Kevin and Angie; their 18 grandchildren, Christopher (Suzy,) Scott (Kelly,) Kevin (Melanie,) Eric (Amanda,) James, Michael, Mark, Keith, Mary (Matthew,) Colleen (Jeremy,) Kelsey (Jesse,) Megan (Diren,) Stacy (Erik,) Michael, Casey, Michelle (Nate,) Kristin and James; their 15 great-grandchildren, Thomas, Sadie, Kayla, Marissa, Gavin, Aiden, Colin, Cadence, Luke, Lyric, Amelia, Annabel, Emmet, Sophie and Rhoo; additionally, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Martin, brother-in-law, William McCabe, cousin Joan Guido, and numerous nieces and nephews, who together make up our great big Irish Catholic McCabe/McMahon/Flynn/Burns Family. She was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School, and a longtime member of St. Vincent Blessed Sacrament Church. In addition to her books of poetry, she was an artist who produced numerous works of art that she has shared with family and friends. The family wishes to thank mom's caregivers, led by her great-niece, Jenna McMahon, whose love and care for our mother made it possible for her to remain in her home. Thank you to Jenna, Susan, Lavonda, Carolyn, Marilyn, Jackie & Tessa. We also thank Dr. Kent Struck and Dr. Elizabeth Rosato, who provided outstanding medical care for our mother for many, many years, as well as the staff of Good Shepherd Fairview Rehab & Wellness, whose rehabilitation work with mom after her surgeries allowed her to regain the strength she needed to return home. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Clubhouse Road, Vestal, Thrusday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Wednesday, from 4 to 7 pm.
