Obituary of Mary Louise Freije

Mary Louise Freije (née Tirrell) died on February 20 in State College Pennsylvania. She was 92 years old. Mrs. Freije was a resident of Binghamton for almost 70 years. She was born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey in 1925, the daughter of Edward Leo Tirrell and Laura Mary Maag Tirrell. She and her family moved to Binghamton from New Jersey in the 1940s. After graduating from the College of New Rochelle, she married J. Richard Freije in 1950. They raised five children, four of whom survive her. They were active members of St. Thomas Aquinas parish where she taught after-school Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) classes for several years. Mrs. Freije also volunteered her time visiting and assisting nursing home residents in the area. Mrs. Freije was a loving grandmother to eight grandchildren, Kathryn Keck, Laura Napoli, Daniel, Christine and Matthew Freije, Edward Rosini, and Carter and Paul Freije, and five great grandchildren, Amelia, Christian and Graham Keck and Joanna and Abigail Napoli. She was predeceased by her husband, and her siblings, Edward L. Tirrell II, Genevieve M. Tirrell and Paul C. Tirrell. Her surviving children are Ellen Herdegen of Sebastian Florida, Elizabeth (Betsy) Rosini of Montclair, NJ, Laura Augustine of Guilderland, NY, Richard (Dick) Freije of Worcester, MA and daughter-in-law, Marsha Freije of State College, PA. Her son, Dr. James Freije, died in 2015. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Avenue, Binghamton on Saturday February 24th at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Augustine's Cemetery, Silver Lake, PA, in the spring. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Saturday, February 24th from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
