Mary L. (Ostanek ) Hodnik, 91, formerly of Forest City, PA passed away peacefully Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Elizabeth Church Manor. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, William John Hodnik. Her family takes comfort in knowing they are now reunited. Born July 9, 1926 in Forest City, PA, she was the daughter of the late Frank Ostanek and Angeline (Proscenece) Ostanek. Mary was predeceased by her sister, Angeline Ostanek. She was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Parish, Forest City. As a diligent worker she achieved many goals at Link Aviation, G.E., and IBM, Endicott. She retired from IBM as a purchasing agent in October, 1988. "Mitzi" loved to pick fruits and berries for canning and making homemade pies and jams. She loved her garden, especially her roses. Mary enjoyed puzzles, reading, writing poetry, card games, and cheering on her favorite sports teams. One of her favorite events was planning the annual Easter egg hunt for her grandchildren. Most of all she cherished time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Mary is survived by her two sons, William M. And Colleen Hodnik of Reading, PA, David M. And Tina Hodnik of Binghamton; and a brother Frank And Ruth Ostanek. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Kate and husband Casey Smith, Molly Hodnik, Brittney and husband Matt Shearin, and Matthew Hodnik. Mary was truly kind and generous in every way. She had a heart overflowing with love and her spirit will live on with us forever. Our family would like to thank all of the administration and staff at Elizabeth Church Manor, especially the aides and nurses of the second floor for the love and support, passion and dignity they showed toward Mary.
