JoAnn Mayko, 72, of Binghamton died Tuesday November 21, 2017 at Good Shepherd Village at Endwell. She was predeceased by her parents Irene (Belansky) and John VanWallendael. She is survived by her husband of 47 years Joseph Mayko; her sisters M. Elizabeth McGee, Fla.; Christina VanWallendael and Jay Gospodnetich, CA.; Rene Conklin, Binghamton; Julie VanWallendael, Wa.; A. Jeanne VanWallendael, Fla.; two Aunts, Anne Root, Binghamton and Velma Deuel, HI.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Robert and Adriane Mayko, Fla.; Sandy Mayko and Gary Obialero, Binghamton; Richard Mayko, SD; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was a 1963 graduate of St. Patrick's Academy and a graduate of St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in Elmira. She attended Binghamton University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing and a M.A. in Counseling. She was a career nurse at hospitals in Albany, Johnson City and Binghamton. She enjoyed the outdoors and reading and was an excellent cook. She enjoyed family, friends and children. Thanks to family, neighbors, friends , students and athletes for their gifts, cards and visits. The family wishes to thank the Good Shepherd Village staff, P.A.'s and Doctors for the care given to JoAnn. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church, corner of Oak and Leroy Streets, Binghamton, Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be n Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Bingnamton, Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in JoAnn's name may be made to the Good Shepherd Employee Recognition Fund, C/O Good Shepherd Community Foundation, 32 Village Drive, Endwell, NY 13760.
