Please share a memory of Sister Jeanne-Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sister Jeanne-Marie (Lise) Pearse, OSB, cam., 91, co-foundress of Transfiguration Monastery in Windsor, NY, died on October 8, 2017 in Scranton, PA. A native of Rochester, NY, Sister Jeanne-Marie spent many years living a monastic life in France, Boston, Italy and Canada. In 1979, she co-founded Transfiguration Monastery together with Sister Mary Placid Deliard and Sister Mary Donald Corcoran. She was very active in the Association of Contemplative Sisters and founded an organization called Contemplatives for Peace. She brought a graciousness to the monastery's practice of hospitality and was a person of deep prayer. She is survived by her sister Polly Gates of Claremont, CA; a niece and nephew and her three religious Sisters of Transfiguration Monastery. Her Sisters are deeply grateful to the Little Sisters of the Poor in Scranton, who cared for her from 2011 until her death, because of her severely diminished health. Her memory will be cherished by her Sisters at the Monastery and her many friends. "Let them prefer nothing whatever to Christ, and may he bring us all together to everlasting life." (Rule of St. Benedict) Visitation will be in the Monastery chapel on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be on Friday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Windsor. Burial will be in Transfiguration Cemetery, Windsor. Memorial contributions may be made to Transfiguration Monastery, 701 NY Route 79, Windsor, NY 13865.
