Phalen, William J. Friendsville, PA: William J. Phalen, 72, of Friendsville, PA, formerly of Johnson City, died unexpectedly Wednesday, September 12, 2012. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Thomas and Ruth Phalen; a nephew, Michael Phalen; and his aunt and uncle, Evelyn and Francis Phalen. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Bonnie Wood Phalen; his children, Kevin and Joanna Phalen, Mark and Mandy Phalen, Timothy and Kathleen Phalen; 7 grandchildren, Michael, Eric, Patrick, Olivia, Luke, Henry and Cormac; his sister and brothers, Mary and Robert Kuhn, James and Dorothy Phalen, Thomas and Marilyn Phalen, Martin and Stephanie Phalen; several nieces and nephews; mother-in-law, E. Irene Wood. He was a member of St. Brigid Parish, Friendsville, PA, and a US Air Force veteran. He retired from Xerox Corp. after 30 years of service. He was a graduate of St. Patrick's Academy and Broome Tech. Bill enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren. Bill loved the outdoors, cherished his Irish heritage, and was a devout Catholic. Family and friends will deeply miss him and his selfless desire to enthusiastically help others. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. James Church, Johnson City, Monday at 9:30AM. Burial in St. John's Cemetery, Flynn, PA. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Sunday from 5-8PM In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Bill may be made to St. Brigid Parish, PO Box 75, Friendsville, PA 18818.
