Josephine Yarema Leighton, 80, of Vestal died Friday December 30, 2016 at James G. Johnston Memorial Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her husband E. Charles Leighton, her daughter Dr. Rita E. Leighton and her brother Michael Yarema. She is survived by her children, Edward and Andrea Leighton, Niskayuna; Dr. Matthew and Cathy Leighton, Amherst, NH; Charles F. and Karen Leighton, Rockville, MD; Mark and Karen Leighton, Binghamton; 14 grandchildren and many close friends. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Vestal and a member of the Ladies of Charity. She started her career with IBM and then left to raise her five children and later on supported her husband at Leighton's Pharmacy on Binghamton's South Side and as proprietor of Taylor's Tiny Town in Vestal. There was nothing she enjoyed more than her grandchildren. The family wishes to thank the staff at the James G. Johnston Memorial Nursing Home for their loving care of Josephine. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Clubhouse Road, Vestal, Wednesday at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J. A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in Josephine's name may be made to the E.
