David Gregory Rossie, 87, of Kattelville, died Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Wilson Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mildred Rossie, and his wife of 51 ½ years Muriel Rossie. David is survived by his children David M. Rossie, Amy Rossie-Ashbaugh and Brad Ashbaugh, Stephen and Joan Rossie, Susan Wolf and Chip Schafer, Matthew and Marie Rossie; his grandchildren, Cayleigh and Sarah Wolf, Jacob and Meg Rossie, Benjamin Ashbaugh, and TeeJay Marini; his great-grandchildren Mason, Ally, Tyler, Emma, and Nora; his brothers Jonathon and Ann Rossie, and Christopher Rossie; several nieces and nephews; many friends and colleagues. He will be particularly missed by a dear family friend Arthur Armbruster. David was a nationally syndicated columnist and wrote for the newspaper for over 60 years. He was a graduate of Binghamton Central High School and Cortland State College. He loved fly fishing, hunting and anything outdoors. He was an avid gardener, loved hunting for mushrooms and bird watching. Aside from his professional love of writing, he enjoyed sharing his knowledge of journalism and history with whoever would listen. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Monday at 3 p.m. Dave Bollinger will officiate. Private burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Monday from 12 noon until 3 p.m. The family requests that flowers please be omitted and expressions of sympathy in memory of David be made to Project Healing Waters. Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans through fly fishing and associated activities including education and outings.
