John M. Duffy, 85, formerly of Binghamton died peacefully Monday, December 26, 2016 at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick, MD. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Betty (Murphy) and his sister, Rita (Jean) Hawkes. He is survived by his children, Maury Duffy, Apalachin, Timothy Duffy, Bear, DE, Sean and Lisa Duffy, Nashua, NH, Kevin and Peggy Duffy, Germantown, MD, Michael and Chris Duffy, Cicero, Erin Duffy and Diana Tucci, Damascus, MD; 11 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; his sisters-in-law, Carol Murphy, Hillcrest and Alice Murphy, Johnson City; his brother-in-law, Raymond Murphy, Vestal; several nieces and nephews. John was a graduate of Binghamton North High School. A veteran of the Korean conflict, John served in the USAF where he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was a Radio Operator/Gunner. He was stationed in Honshu, Wakkanai and Tokyo, Japan. After serving his country John attended Harpur College. John retired from IBM after 35 years of service in sales and marketing. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Vestal, and a former parish council member. John was an avid golfer, reader and cardplayer. He will be remembered for his Irish wit and laughter. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Clubhouse Road, Vestal, Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Friday from 4 to 6 p.m.
