Obituary of Betsy Gottlieb
Please share a memory of Betsy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Betsy Gottlieb, age 53, went home on Thursday, December 22, 2016 after an incredibly courageous 8-year-battle with ALS. Betsy was predeceased by her mother-in-law, Shirley Gottlieb. She is survived by her husband, Scott; her beautiful daughters Alexis and Victoria; her parents, Tito & Olfa Cadiz; her grandmother, Herminia Rodriguez; her brothers Harold (Julia) Cadiz and Orlando (Michelle) Cadiz; her father-in-law, Carl Gottlieb, her sister-in-law, Linda Gottlieb, and many dear nieces and nephews. Betsy moved to Endicott from Puerto Rico with her family at age 4. After high school, she obtained an Associates Degree in travel and tourism. Betsy had many passions, especially her charitable works. She was a long-time volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and dedicated much of her time to hospice care, teaching Sunday school and working as a substitute Spanish teacher at Hillel Academy. Up until the time she passed away, Betsy donated the majority of her earnings and savings to children's charities, supporting up to 7 foster children at a time in poverty-stricken countries. She also loved to dance, play softball and train at the gym, where she spent time as an aerobics instructor and amateur figure and bikini competitor. Whenever she was able, Betsy loved to travel to visit family and friends, and take vacations with her family. Perhaps she was best known for her sense of humor and ability to make anyone laugh, often catching strangers unprepared, but always leaving them with a smile on their faces. Simply speaking, Betsy was a lover of life. Bringing the knowledge of the Lord to others was also especially important to Betsy, and she was very active in several Bible study groups. However, it was her daughters who brought her the most purpose, pride and joy. Betsy spent her last few years enjoying the comforts of home with the help of her dedicated personal aides, "Betsy's Angels", who were heaven-sent. They were always there, never leaving her side, helping her carry out her charitable works and constantly fighting for her to have peace, which she finally found at long last. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God, 255 Washington Street, Binghamton, New York, followed by a short service at 1:00 p.m. A private burial will follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the ALS Association to continue the fight against this devastating disease. Donations in Betsy's memory can be made online at www.alsa.org, or mailed to the ALS Association, Gift Processing Center, P.O. Box 6051, Albert Lea, MN 56007.
