Joan P. Burns, 74, of Vestal, died Sunday November 6, 2016 at Mercy House of the Southern Tier. She was predeceased by her parents Vernon and Eleanor Perry and a brother-in-law Charles "Skip" Miller. She is survived by her husband of 47 years Lawrence Burns; a son and daughter-in-law Sean and Christine Burns, York, PA; a sister Marilyn Miller, Towanda, PA; a brother and sister-in-law Vernon and Jean Perry, Powell, PA; several nieces and nephews and a special friend Doris Gavernick, MD. She was a graduate of Towanda High School and St. Joseph's School of X-Ray Technology, Elmira; a member of the Towanda Moose Lodge. She was a former X-Ray technician for Dr. Jack Levine in Endicott and was employed at Gertrude Hawk Candy in Vestal for 25 years. She absolutely loved her Greyhound therapy dogs and the work that they did. Joan was well loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Funeral Services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Saturday at 1 p.m. Rev. Dc. Warren Musselman will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Joan's name may be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 N. McKinley Ave. Endicott, NY 13760 or to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the charity of one's choice.
