Obituary of Olive Purtell

Olive Catherine Tyne Purtell, 100, of Binghamton, formerly of Lincoln Court on Vestal Avenue, passed away on Saturday November 5, 2016 at Susquehanna Nursing Center. Olive was predeceased by her husband Robert D. Purtell, brothers Donald Guthrie and William Tyne and sister Coletta Tyne Lesch. She is survived by her sons Donald Purtell of New Hartford, NY and Ronald (Joyce) Purtell of Charlotte, NC.; 5 grandchildren, Deborah Purtell (Bradley) Engel, Potomac, MD; Christy Purtell (Kent) Robertson, Walnut Creek, CA; Robert (LeeAnn) Purtell, Ann Arbor, MI; Julie Purtell (Daniel) Wimer, Denver, CO; Katherine Purtell, Rochester, NY; 3 great-grandchildren, Jake and Tyler Engel, and Pierce Wimer. Also surviving are her niece Patricia Lesch (Rudy) Polisensky of Endicott and nephews Gerard F. Lesch, Chenango Forks and Ronald (Diane) Lesch, Binghamton; also several grand nieces and nephews. Olive was a lifelong member of the Parish of Saints John and Andrew, Binghamton. She was also a retired employee of G.A.F. Corporation and worked many years as a crossing guard on Vestal Avenue on the South Side and was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. The family would like to thank the staff at Susquehanna Nursing Center for their compassionate care during Olive's final days. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Church of Saints John and Andrew, Vestal Avenue, Binghamton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in Olive's name may be made to the Parish of Saints John and Andrew, 7 Livingston Street, Binghamton, NY 13903.
