James J. Malane, Jr., 78, of Binghamton, passed away with his loving family around him after open heart surgery at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia. He was predeceased by his parents James Sr. and Gertrude Malane; is in-laws Grace and Winifred Green; son-in-law Lee Barta; sister Sally Nealy; brother-in-law Frank Sacco. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Beverly Malane; daughter Colleen Malane; son Michael (Beth) Malane; daughter Mary (Bob) Barta-Transue; his grandchildren Daniel (Angela) Barta; Kellie (Rob) Ramirez; Patrick Barta, Colleen, Maggie Sean and Ryan Malane; sister Kathleen (John) Lash; sister-in-law Joan Sacco; sister-in –law and brother-in-law Milo and Barbara Brunick; brother-in-law Ronald Green; sister-in-law Gail Malane, also many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Binghamton. He graduated from Binghamton North High School and attended Broome Community College and the United States Naval Academy and served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a former Binghamton Police Officer and was a retired Chief of the Binghamton Fire Department. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Peter T. Campon Council 206 and a member of its 4th Degree Assembly. He was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and the American Legion. A Funeral Mass will be offered Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Binghamton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Sunday from 1-4 p.m. In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy in Jim's name may be made to ARC Otsego, 113 Browne St., Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the charity of one's choice.
