James J. Fitzgerald, 89 of Binghamton, died Friday June 14, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. He was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Dawn Fitzgerald and his son, James P. Fitzgerald. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Eileen Fitzgerald, Binghamton, John and Maureen Fitzgerald, Annandale, VA; five grandchildren, Sara Kate and Terry Schmitt, Michael, Paddy, Keeley and Danny Fitzgerald; two great grandchildren, Tyler and Ryan Schmitt; his sister, Jane Sutton, Endicott; several nieces and nephews and his best friend, Bill Breslin. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Binghamton. Jim retired from the IBM Corporation after 38 years of service and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He was a member of American Legion Post 1227; V.F.W. Post 478 and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He will be missed at the A.O.H., Callahan's, the Beef and Chris' Diner. The family wishes to thank Lourdes 3 Ross for their care and compassion. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Avenue, Binghamton Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Friendsville, PA. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton Sunday from 1-4 p.m. The family requests that flowers please be omitted and memorial contributions be made to the A.O.H. Hall Repair, 148 Main Street, Binghamton, NY 13905 or Catholic Charities of Broome County, 232 Main Street, Binghamton, NY 13905.
