Chester Edwin Morrisey, Jr., born February 24, 1926, died February 21, 2016 peacefully, Sunday morning at 8 a.m. He is survived by his sons, Jay Morrisey (Michele Havel), Jim Morrisey (Brenda); daughter, Deborah Jordan; son-in-law, John Pecha; sister-in-law, Margaret Morrisey; several grandchildren; great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Hila Morrisey; father, Chester Morrisey Sr.; daughter, Donna Pecha; brother, Richard Morrisey; sister, Norma Moses. Chet at 8 years old lost his right hand in a fireworks explosion in Cortland, NY. He went on to play baseball and basketball for North High School in Binghamton. Chet signed a professional baseball contract with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1945. He pitched for the Utica Blue Sox of the Eastern League. He was the first one handed handicap professional pitcher in Major League baseball history. In 1947-48, Chet traveled and pitched within the United States for the House of David, pitching against many Negro league teams. In 1949-52, Chet signed a contract to pitch for the Douglas Trojans in the Georgia State League. Chet advanced into big league spring promotions for the St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds and NY Mets organizations. Chet also promoted the Oneonta Yankees and the Triple Cities Jets. He loved baseball. golf, billiards hunting and playing cards, known as a pool shark and the One Armed Bandit. He was a NY Yankee and St. Louis Cardinal fan. Chet will be missed by his family and friends. Rest in Peace Dad! Funeral services will be held at Endwell United Methodist Church, 3301 Watson. Blvd. Endwell Friday at 10 a.m. Reverend Mark Kimpland, will officiate. Burial will be in McLean Cemetery, Cortland. NY. The. family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street. Binghamton, Thursday from 7-8 p.m.
