Obituary of Eleanor M. Dragon

Eleanor Dragon, 86, of Vestal, NY passed away on Saturday November 7, 2015. Eleanor was born on January 23, 1929 in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Eleanor is predeceased by her husband, Benjamin A, Dragon; parents, Thomas and Anna (Washko) Onzik; and her brother, John Onzik. Eleanor is survived by her son, Benjamin C. Dragon and his wife, Diane; sisters, Ann Shields and Florence (Edward) Kiluk; grandchildren, Thomas and Laura Dragon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Eleanor graduated from Kingston High School in Wilkes-Barre in 1946, and enjoyed reunions and corresponding with her classmates. Ben attended King's College in Wilkes-Barre, and graduated from Wilkes College in 1950, and Eleanor enjoyed those reunions and friendships as well. She married Ben on February 4, 1956 and they moved to the Triple Cities when Ben started work for General Electric in Westover. They lived in the Stair Tract in Vestal since 1962. Eleanor worked at Britts Department Store, Home Mutual Insurance, and Columbian Mutual Insurance. Eleanor was a very devout Roman Catholic throughout her life. In the 1960's, she and Ben were active members of Blessed Sacrament Church in Johnson City NY. In 1969 they joined the new parish of St. Vincent de Paul in Vestal, where they worshipped until failing health prevented it. She and Ben were devoted to saying the rosary, the Stations of the Cross, and the chaplet for Divine Mercy. Eleanor greatly enjoyed her family and friends, and loved to tell stories about lithe good old days". She really loved the parties with her brother and sisters and their families. A special thanks to Mary Ann Cascarino of the St. Margaret-Mary Stephen Ministry, who was a great comforter and friend to Eleanor. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, 465 Clubhouse Rd., Vestal, on Friday November 13, 2015 at 10am. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton on Thursday November 12 from 5-7pm. In lieu of flowers, please request a Mass to be said in memory of Eleanor.
