Nicoletta Chiarina DiFulvio, age 81 died peacefully and was accompanied by Our Blessed Mother, LaMadonna, to her heavenly home Thursday morning August 27, 2015. She was predeceased in death in 2012 by her caring husband, Dominic, whom she married in 1949. Born in Casacanditella, Italy to Giuseppe and Angiolina Stenta, she was the only daughter among five brothers, Alfonso (deceased), Antonio, Orazio, Umberto (deceased) and Corrado. She came to Binghamton in 1958 welcomed by Chiarina Stenta and Ermelinda DiGirolamo. She worked long, difficult hours in various shoe factories with her special friend, Helen Yesensky. Chiarina (Nicoletta) was an incredibly thoughtful and kind woman with a warm and lovely smile. God not only created her with natural beauty but gave her many talents. She was famous for her perfectly crafted pastry trays filled with tea time tassies, lemon cookies, Italian cream cannoli and many, many other varieties lovingly wrapped with cellophane and decorated with candy and ribbon. She would spend all week creating amazingly delicious multi-course feasts complete with home-made pasta dishes often assisted by her grandchildren. Nicoletta (Chiarina) had quite the green thumb growing lovely flowers all around her home, and the vegetable garden was abundant every year. Septembers were spent picking, preparing and canning her tasty tomato sauce. Chiarina also found time to sew. Her grandchildren will always cherish the super hero capes she designed. Being a Nonna brought the greatest joy to her life and filled her with tremendous pride. She cherished every moment spent with the best grandchildren in the world: Michael, Steven, Andrea (husband Stephen) and Narhan. Her heart belonged to her dear daughter and son-in-law, Anna and Edward Scahill and to her devoted son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Donna DiFulvio, along with her wonderful brother and sister-in-law, Donny and Norina Stenta and their children, Donny (Scott), Maryann, Lisa (Mark, Sam, Ben) and Linda (Dennis). Chiarina felt blessed having life-long friends, Pantaleone and Pia Tuliani and Gino and Linda Paludi, along with many friends in the Italian Community and the parish of St. Mary of the Assumption who shared all of life's important events with her. The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Willow Point Nursing Home for giving her two extra precious and wonderful years of life. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Court Street, Binghamton Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton Friday (Today) from 6-8 p.m.
