Smith, Raymond J. Kirkwood: Raymond J. Smith passed away Monday, June 18, 2012. Ray was born in Cooperstown but lived most of his adult life in Kirkwood, NY. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Betsy Smith (Hills); daughter, Diane Beers; two sons, Andrew and Ronald; granddaughter, Nicole Beers; special nephew, Michael Thompson and wife Phyllis; brothers, Vernon, Willard, and Richard; and many nieces and nephews. Ray was predeceased by his parents, Leon and Viola Smith; brother, Ambrose; sisters, Alma and Leta. Ray's devotion to his family was always the main priority of his life. His love and strength that was passed to all who knew him will be forever remembered. During Ray's journey through life, his mantra was to improve, beautify, and enhance every place he traveled. Ray was the previous owner of Ray Smith Auto Service. He had many successful business accomplishments, including Ray Smith Parking and Storage. A Memorial Service will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton, Monday at 5 p.m. Rev. Ward Yourdon will officiate. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home Monday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Raymond may be made to the American Cancer Society , 13 Beech St., Johnson City, NY 13790.
