Obituary of Margaret M. Norton

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Norton, Margaret (Peg) Binghamton: Peg entered into eternal rest on April 21, 2013. She was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Mae Guinane; husband, Bob Norton; and her dear niece, Jeanne (Hasley) Guley. Peg was also predeceased by her sister, Rosemary and her brother, Robert. Peg is survived by her five children, daughters: Mary Norton (Karen Cerasaro) and Pat (Mike) Watson; sons: Jim (Bonnie) Norton, Bob (Betty) Norton and Tom Norton. Peg had nine wonderful grandchildren with whom she enjoyed spending time: Amy Watson Reinhold, Kelly Norton Collins, Jenni Watson Martzall, Erin Norton Green, Rick Watson, Emily, Katie, Alison and Libby Norton; as well as five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Betty Hasley and Jane Sablich; a brother, Joseph (Patricia) Guinane; and her sister-in-law, Ruth Doyle. In addition, she is survived by several nieces and nephews. Peg was a woman of strong faith and had a commitment to her family that was equally strong. She worked for the Vestal Central School District for many years. Prior to that, she worked for the newspaper and proudly "walked the beat" in the downtown area, reporting on court proceedings. At one time, she served as a City Editor for the newspaper. Peg was a lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist parish and served her parish community in many ways. She made lifetime friends while a part of the St. John's Marching and Chowder Society Choir! Due to her husband Bob's service to his country, she was able to spend the last three years as a resident of the NYS Veterans' Home in Oxford, NY. While there, Peg spent her days participating in many of the activities and shared her stories with family and friends. For this reason, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the NYS Veterans' Home, 4211 St Hwy 220, Oxford, NY 13830 so that other residents may enjoy their days, participating in Bell Choir, Monday night dinners, bike rides and even Bingo!! Tears will certainly be shed, but the tears are merely a reflection of all of the memories shared because we were a part of Peg's life. The family would like to thank all the staff at the NYS Veterans' Home for the care given to Peg, especially the staff on Oak neighborhood. Go out in song, Mom, and we too will reflect on the words of Circle by Harry Chapin: "All my life's a circle, sunrise and sundown; the moon rolls through the nighttime till the daybreak rolls around; all my life's a circle and I can't tell you why, the seasons spinning round again, the years keep rolling by; it seems like I've been here before; I can't remember when; but I have this funny feeling that we'll all be together again; as I find you here again a thought runs through my mind, our love is like a circle; let's go round one more time!" A Funeral Mass will be offered at the Church of Sts. John and Andrew, Vestal Ave., Binghamton Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Peg may be made to the NYS Veterans' Home at Oxford, 4211 St Hwy 220, Oxford, NY 13830
