Edward M. Ziska Sr. | Visit Guest Book Ziska, Edward M., Sr. Binghamton: Edward M. Ziska, Sr. died Saturday, May 12th, 2012. Born on June 18, 1926, he was the third son of six children born to Rudolph P. and Anna K. Ziska. He was predeceased by his brothers, Robert and Leonard; and sisters, Ann Marie Wheelock, Theresa Jernigan and Mary Bolte. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ruth D. Ziska, and their children, Suzanne, Edward Jr., and Robyn; and three grandchildren, Paul Ruedi Aebersold, Kirsten Aebersold, and Tory Ziska; a sister-in-law, Kay Delucia; and brother-in-law, Patrick Monserrate. In addition, he is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Binghamton. Ed graduated from Binghamton North High School in January 1944 after enlisting in the Navy as a V5 candidate on Armistice Day 1943. Ed played varsity basketball while at North High and at St. Lawrence University. He graduated with a BA in Mathematics in January 1951 (Harpur College) in Endicott, NY. Ed continued his education and earned his MS degree in Management Science from The Graduate School of SUNY Binghamton in 1969 (the forerunner of the current MBA program). He also graduated from the IBM Systems Research Institute in NYC in 1961. Ed began his 39 1/2 year career with IBM in September 1946. He retired from IBM in 1988 and became Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at Broome Community College from 1998-1996. Ed will be remembered for his love of various activities in the sports and social areas. He won several tennis tournaments playing in the Frank Pollard tournaments and in the IBM tournaments. He was also an avid bridge played who enjoyed duplicate bridge. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Highland Ave., Binghamton, Wednesday at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St., Binghamton.
