Julia Koulikas Obituary
A Warrior is Laid to Rest
Julia (Maragus) Koulikas joined her husband, Alecko on September 19 after battling 2 types of cancers, cardiovascular disease and dementia at the young age of 93. Julia worked hard her whole life, from being a waitress at local diners, intimate fitter at Sissons Department Store, to a stitcher at Kroehler Furniture, a solder at Amphenol and when she felt there was more to do, she was a volunteer at Lourdes Hospital. She loved making rag quilts, crafting, baking and large dinners for her family. Her greatest joy came from raising her 5 children: James (Jennifer), Christena (Dennis), Jo Ann (Jim), John (Vicki), Anastasia (Scott) and Todd Gregory who made our home his on many occasions. 10 grandchildren: Michael, Julia, Jackie, Jennifer, Nick, Alexander, Alexis, Alexandra, Samantha & Athena as well as 11 great grandchildren: Dylan, Madison, Taylor, Michael, Brody, Lucian John, Alecko, Theo, Tristan, Mark & Peter. She enjoyed spending time with her siblings John (Anne), Cecelia (Mike), Nick (Sharon) as well as her nieces and nephews, Harry, Margret, Jennifer, Stephen, Lisa, Jennifer, Nicole and special cousins Cyndi and Theo Totolis. Julia quickly made many friends along her way with her kind soul. Anyone who knew Julia (aka The Cute Chick), was immediately engulfed by her fierce spirit, infectious love and generosity. The family would like to thank Lourdes at Home for their special attention to Julia's needs: Karrie (her best friend), Bethany, Kaylyn, Cheree, Hospice Nurse Lauren, her day Aides who helped her stay independent, Jakki, Lori & Lisa and Melissa (Cost Cutters) who always made time for Julia. She has such love for you all.
Her family will receive friends at the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, Hellenic Drive, Vestal, NY on Thursday, September 26 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. A Funeral service will follow at 11:00am. Rev. Philip Yanulis will officiate. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endwell. Expressions of sympathy in Julia's memory may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation.
