J. Richard (Dick) Hartigan of Vestal, NY passed away peacefully under the care of Hospice at Mercy House of the Southern Tier in Endicott, NY. Dick was an only child who did not himself have any children. He retired from Oyster Bay-East Norwich Central School District as a high school librarian. Prior to that he taught Latin in the Binghamton School District. Dick returned to his hometown after his retirement and has lived independently until very recently continuing to drive, shop, and manage all his appointments and finances. He was an avid reader who loved murder mysteries. Dick also enjoyed putting together jigsaw puzzles and listening to his extensive collection of classical music. Dick is predeceased by his parents Cecil and Ward Hartigan, many first cousins, and friends. He is survived by numerous cousins including Theresa (David) Middleton, Patrick (Barbara) Brennan, Elizabeth McGraw, and Karen (David) Ackerman. The family would like to acknowledge and thank his guardian angel, Kristine, who got his mail, provided some meals, and checked in on him over the last year when he needed it all out of the goodness of her heart.
