Obituary of Maurice J. Fitzgerald

Maurice J. Fitzgerald, 84, of Binghamton, passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 1, 2000 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Jane Fitzgerald. His is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Helen Wass Fitzgerald; his children, Robert and Sue Fitzgerald, Joanne and Walter (Buddy) Allen, Maureen and John Ellis; also his grandchildren, Michael P. Fitzgerald, Scott Allen, Megan and Jim Mercer, Kevin Fitzgerald, Matthew Eills and Ryan Ellis, who he dearly treasured. Maurice also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Carly and Zachary Fitzgerald, Erika Allen, Kevin, Brian and Grace Mercer; one brother and sister-in-law Dorothy and Frank Hayes, Marian and Cary Leonard, Jane and Richard Sutton, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rudy and Mary Waas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Patricks Church, Binghamton, and a longtime employee of NYSEG at Goudy Station and a retired inspector for the Broome County Health Department. All who knew Maurice will fondly remember his love of his family, the pleasure he took from his years of vacationing at the Jersey shore, his voracious reading of newspapers from across the country, his daily stops at his favorite coffee shops through the years, and his wonderful stories and guided tours of Out Our Way, Friendsville, Pa. The family wishes to give special thanks to Maurices brother, Jim, who showed such kindness to him, most especially during the past three years. Funeral services will be held at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main St. Binghamton, Saturday, at 8:30 a.m. and at 9 a.m. at St. Patricks Church, where a funeral mass will be offered. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Friendsville,Pa. The family will receive friends at the McCormack Funeral Home, Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Maurice may be made to St.Patricks Church restoration Fund, 9 Leroy St., Binghamton, NY 13905 or to the Rev. Charles Opondo-Owora, c/o St. Ambrose Church, 203 Washington Ave., Endicott, NY 13760
